New workshops announced for Winter/Spring 2026!

GRADES K-5 PD
All 6-hour workshops are free for ALL NEW JERSEY TEACHERS, with eligibility for receiving a STIPEND for attending! Seats are extremely limited, so apply for a seat as soon as possible (application at the bottom of the page). Once your application is accepted, you must RSVP and lock in your seat, attend the session in full, and you will be eligible receive a stipend for your attendance and participation. You may only attend the same workshop once (i.e. You cannot attend CSF once in September 2025, and once in January 2026 to receive two stipends). One seat per participant. Become a partner district, and receive priority access to all workshops and stipend seats.
Physical Computing with ROBOTS!
This workshop will offer K-5 educators a hands-on experience as they interact with a range of physical computing resources for the elementary classroom. A variety of robotics and physical computing resources will be demonstrated, as well as strategies for instruction which include unplugged computing, block-based & text-based programming, and supporting visual and brainstorming techniques which foster greater computational thinking. This workshop will also showcase many of the resources available in the Lending Library at the Central NJ CS Hub, which teachers can choose to borrow and utilize in their own instructional spaces for free!

Inside the Case, In Our Lives: Computing Systems and Society
Educators will explore hands-on strategies to teach computing systems, human–technology interaction, and technology’s role in society. Gain practical lesson ideas and creative activities that help students connect what’s “inside the case” to the world around them. Perfect for K–5 teachers ready to inspire curiosity, responsibility, and confidence in young learners.

Networks and the Internet with Cybersecurity - Elementary
Teachers will learn the basics of computer networking and how the information is securely transported across the internet through hands-on activities. Topics will include IP Addressing, Networking Protocols and Cryptography.

Explore micro:bit in the Elementary Classroom!
In this hands-on workshop, you'll discover how the micro:bit (a tiny handheld computer) can bring coding and creativity to life for your Grades 3+ students. We'll explore simple ways to use the micro:bit in your classroom, from making lights blink and sensors react, to building fun games and mini robots. You'll get to try out classroom-ready projects, explore helpful resources, and leave with ideas you can use right away!

What's All the Hype About AI and Machine Learning
Want to know more about artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) but don’t know where to start. Looking to introduce AI and ML to your students but aren’t quite ready? This workshop will introduce you to AI and machine learning in a fun interactive way and prepare you to teach it to your PreK-5 students immediately. We will define AI and ML, explore AI and human perception, incorporate stories, and try our hand at using AI and ML. You will leave with hands-on activities to bring to your classroom and resources to delve deeper.

AI for Computer Science: Teaching With It and Teaching About It
This hands-on workshop is designed for Computer Science educators to demystify Artificial Intelligence and integrate it meaningfully into their curriculum. Moving beyond the "cheating" debate, we explore AI as both a powerful pedagogical assistant and a critical subject matter for students.Topics will range from AI literacy and ethics, through hands-on practice with machine learning concepts in Scratch, to using AI for writing Python code.

Intro to Java for Secondary Teachers (Gr. 6-12)
This course will introduce learners who have little to no text-based programming knowledge to java syntax and concepts via a hands-on workshop. Topics include the history of java, the structure of a java program, basic syntax, primitive data types, mathematical operators, writing and calling methods, conditional expressions, loops, and user input. Additional topics related to Object Oriented Programming in java may be introduced as time permits. The goal is to create confident novice java programmers!

Want to learn about the ubiquitous programming language Python? This fun and interactive workshop provides the basics of how to write your first Python program, and provides opportunities to explore, develop skills, and collaborate within the context of data collection and analysis!

Building & Programming AI-Powered Robots
In this workshop, we get hands on with the mBot 2 and Cyber-Pi by Makeblock as we learn how to build robots suitable for the secondary (middle school and high school) classroom! This resource is great for robotics classes that not only want to cover the fundementals of programming, but also an introduction to mechanical systems too. We'll also learn how AI vision sensors can be incorperated using both block and text based programming lanugages suitable for a wide range of learners. Attendees will receive a robot kit that they get to keep and bring into their classroom as well.
